Final results are expected by Friday, though the provisional results showed 65 of the Knesset's 120 seats would go to the right-wing bloc of parties led by Netanyahu, against a total of 55 seats for center-left factions. Recent opinion polls show a tight race between Gantz's centrist Blue and White with about 30 seats and Netanyahu's right wing Likud with some 28 seats.

World leaders reacted Wednesday to a likely electoral victory for Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with fellow right-wing leaders hailing his triumph while others were more circumspect.

On the left, the Labor Party made the worst showing in its history, winning a scanty six seats, compared to the 2013 election-the last time it ran as an independent party-when it won 15. Any concession to Palestine would likely bring objections from Mr Netanyahu's far-right coalition allies. "What is certain is that I will never stop giving everything [I have] to the State of Israel".

"It will be a right-wing government, but I will be Prime Minister for all".

Israeli Attorney General Avihai Mandelblit had already served notice that he plans to indict Netanyahu on multiple counts of bribery and fraud.

He spent the final days of the race in what pundits called a "gevalt" campaign, warning his voters that unless they turned out, a left-wing government would be established. As a last minute campaign pledge, Netanyahu even promised the annexation of the West Bank.

The results from Tuesday's vote came despite corruption allegations against the 69-year-old premier and put him on track to become Israel's longest-serving prime minister later this year. He has held the office for a decade consecutively, in addition to his initial three-year term in the late 1990s.

However, Mr Netanyahu was also celebrating from his party's election headquarters in Tel Aviv.

Former White House counsel for Obama charged in Mueller-related case
Manafort was sentenced in March to seven-and-a-half years in prison for lobbying violations and financial crimes. Craig is not guilty of any charge and the government's stubborn insistence on prosecuting Mr.

The 35-seat tie also represents a new high for the opposition. "The fact is that it will be very hard for the Kachol Lavan party (the Blue and White, named after the colors of the Israeli flag), the only clear slogan of which was "We are ready for anything, but not with Netanyahu", to abandon its beliefs and make an alliance with Netanyahu".

"The skies may look overcast.but they can not hide the sun of hope that we have brought to the Israeli people and society", Gantz, 59, wrote in an open letter to supporters.

Due to the strong resistance to the Israeli religious establishment on the part of numerous immigrants who Liberman represents, Yisrael Beytenu has found itself at loggerheads in the past with Haredi parties when they promoted legislation relating to religious matters.

The election included several other surprises. In the end, the far-right pro-marijuana legalization party only drew the support of 2.53% of voters, placing it on the outside looking in.

Liberman, 60, has built the party around a base of immigrants to Israel from the former Soviet Union. Kulanu, a centre-right party focused on economics, won four seats.

That will undoubtedly weigh on the president's decision of which party to choose to form a coalition to make up a majority ruling coalition in parliament.

He thanked the US President for his "tremendous support for Israel". He visited Russian Federation to thank Moscow for honouring his request to recover the remains of an Israeli soldier lost in Syria.

Likud won a slim plurality of votes in Jerusalem, Israel's largest city.
