Army of lawyers prepares for Assange extradition battle

But after seven years, Ecuador abruptly withdrew its asylum and invited the police to arrest him on Thursday. The struggle has taken him through a "mansion arrest" in the English countryside; a dramatic escape into the Ecuadorian Embassy in London; a multimillion-pound United Kingdom police siege of the embassy that has strained government coffers; and even a weird attempt to turn him into a Moscow-based diplomat.

"We will do everything we can to ensure that the prosecutors resume the Swedish preliminary investigation so that Assange can be extradited to Sweden and prosecuted for rape".

The letter, signed late on Friday by mostly Labour Party MPs, urged UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid to "stand with the victims of sexual violence" and ensure the rape claim against him can be "properly investigated".

He spent nearly seven years in the Ecuadorian embassy, where he sought political asylum in 2012 when he failed in his legal battle against extradition to Sweden, where he was wanted over two separate allegations - one of rape and one of molestation.

The official, who asked for anonymity when discussing the case, said USA authorities had already sent Britain a provisional arrest warrant regarding Assange's extradition to the United States.

With Assange facing extradition proceedings and up to five years in federal prison on the United States computer hacking charge, shadow home secretary Diane Abbott told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the United Kingdom should resist handing him over.

After his dramatic arrest, Assange was taken to Westminster Magistrates' Court and found guilty of a British charge of breaching bail.

WikiLeaks "confirmed" that Assange's cat is safe and sound after being "rescued" from the Ecuadorian embassy in mid-October 2018 upon request from the whistleblower.

'They weren't that dangerous' - Pogba bullish on Man Utd's chances in Barcelona
When asked if Pogba would be a good fit for the Madrid midfield, Casmiro added: "A world class player at his level can play in any team".

The rape allegation has a limitation period which expires in August 2020, it adds.

The 47-year-old Assange has extreme shoulder pain and tooth pain, Hrafnsson said.

But she said Assange should face the criminal justice system if the Swedish government charged him.

Assange denies both allegations.

Meanwhile, Ecuador's President Lenin Moreno said the UK Government had given him a written assurance that Mr Assange would not be extradited to a country where he could face torture or the death penalty.

He could receive up to a year in prison when sentenced at an as yet undetermined later date.

Assange's London lawyer Jennifer Robinson said: "He's obviously going to fight extradition and fight it hard".

Inspectors found "most prisoners share a cell designed for one person" while more than a third "were receiving psychosocial help for substance misuse problems".
