ABC News went on to report that 150,000 customers have been left without power in Texas, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana as a result of the storms.

The weather service said preliminary information showed an EF-3 tornado touched down with winds of 140 miles per hour.

At least seven people, including three children, have been killed after a series of devastating tornadoes swept through the South.

The children, aged eight and three, were pronounced dead at the scene although both parents, who were in the front seat, escaped injury, he said.

The weather service reported that Monday would bring milder weather in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions, with the tail end of the storm system leaving behind some rain.

The fatal incident occurred in Angelina County.

"Strong winds will blow around unsecured objects and may blow down tree limbs and power lines". Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches said in a statement that the children, who were in the auto with their parents during the storm, were pronounced dead on the scene.

The death is believed to be storm related, public information officer Glenn Springfield said. A half-dozen homes were damaged and at least six people were injured.

Meteorologist Monique Sellers said they've received reports of downed trees, as well as damage to buildings and a transmission tower.

But "the storm is so vigorous that tornadoes are still possible after dark", he said.

Warm air enhanced the atmosphere's instability Saturday, allowing the storm system to rev up more energy and grow, CNN meteorologist Chad Myers said.

Multiple people have been reported injured as tornadoes continued to flare along the Mississippi-Alabama state line late Saturday and early Sunday.

While a watch indicates that tornadoes are possible, a warning is more serious and means that a tornado is likely or imminent.
