Zion-Tacko matchup highlights NCAA second round in East

It's one thing to be confident in your game, but what kind of doomed fate is Tacko wishing upon his Knights?

The Rams have been a nuisance on the defensive end, where they rank tenth in the nation in points allowed per game.

The ploy worked as UCF passed it out for a final shot that was off the mark. But Williamson got this shot to drop, shouting as he fell hard to the ground. When Fall was hit with foul trouble, Williamson charged to the hoop.

And fall vowed that the Blue Devils' superstar freshman will not have the opportunity to dunk on him.

This is the first time UCF has made it to the NCAA Tournament since 2005.

Barrett finished with 16 points.

The Knights took a four-point lead on a dunk by Tacko Fall with a little more than a minute to play in the second round tonight.

Maryland as the #6 seed faced Belmont who started the NCAA Tournament with an 11 point victory over Temple in Dayton, Ohio. FOX 17 caught up with some fans as they made their way into the arena Thursday and two really stood out.

"I just tried to stay big and make a play", Fall said.

After seeing his opening hook shot bounce off the rim, Fall casually grabbed the rebound over a pair of Duke defenders for an easy one-handed slam to give the Knights the first bucket of the game. Fall scored 13 points and pulled down 18 boards against VCU, Taylor scored 15 points and added four rebounds and Aubrey Dawkins poured in 13 points and recorded seven rebounds.

UCF will face off against the Tournament's No.1 overall seed, the Duke Blue Devils in the Round of 32.

UCF coach Johnny Dawkins: "We have been challenging Tacko all season long about really imposing his will on the game". And even with the freshman's offensive mastery Duke almost saw its season come to an end, as UCF defended well and also shot the ball well on the other end of the floor. His relatively short build for a post player has not hindered him, as he has managed to bully opponents for high percentage looks on offense. Fall had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks in the 55-79 loss to Memphis in the American Conference tournament, and he has had three or more blocks in four of his last 10 games.

But despite his close ties to the program, Dawkins said after UCF's win that he hasn't been able to watch the Blue Devils much this season.

UCF: The Knights will have some big shoes to fill (size 22) next season with Fall's senior season complete. Fall dominates in the paint, averaging 10.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Duke survived and it will advance to the Sweet 16, and that's all you can ask of a team in the NCAA Tournament.
