United States denies Russian accusation it is preparing Venezuela intervention

The United States and dozens of other nations have recognised opposition leader Juan Guaido as Venezuela's legitimate president, but Maduro still controls the military, state institutions and oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA, which provides 90 percent of the country's export revenue.

The Trump administration has recently taken more brazen action.

Russian representative Vassily Nebenzia said Venezuela's people must resolve their own problems through solutions based on respect for national sovereignty.

Russian Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev claims the United States is amassing troops near the Venezuelan border ahead of a military operation in the south American country.

"We have information that companies from the USA and its North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies are considering the possibility of buying a large batch of weapons in one of the Eastern European countries in order to provide them to the Venezuelan opposition", she said.

Arreaza said his country was under a US blockade that has seized $30 billion worth of Venezuelan assets, particularly of oil companies, since November 2017. Maduro said that the restrictions were tantamount to illegal seizure.

The United States has imposed numerous rounds of sanctions on Venezuela. Belandria has been recognized as Venezuela's top diplomat by Bolsonaro's government.

Jorge Jimenez, 51, had exited his vehicle after striking the guardrail on Interstate 690 when Boeheim's vehicle hit him. Wildhack echoed police, saying Boeheim "is in contact with local authorities and cooperating fully".

Arreaza denounced what he described as a campaign of "aggression" being perpetrated by the United States against Venezuela, including an worldwide assault on the government's foreign assets.

At the beginning of this month it became known that the USA representation at the United Nations was preparing this text to try to legitimize a military aggression against Venezuela, under pretexts of humanitarian intervention.

For Trump, removing Maduro has offered a politically attractive cause around which to rally the growing Venezuelan American community in the key state of Florida - and a way to send a message to Maduro ally Cuba.

The United States wants the UN to vote this week on a draft resolution calling for elections in the country and the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Trump has also vigorously sought to use Venezuela to tarnish domestic foes, trying to link Maduro's socialism to Democrats pushing to reduce U.S. income inequality. "They are trying to fabricate a crisis to justify political escalation and a military intervention in Venezuela to bring a war to South America".

"The result is a seriously weakened opposition, without a clear direction".

"It's time to do more", said Pence.
