Trump Lawyer Calls for Investigation Into How Mueller Probe Began

"And hopefully, somebody's going to be looking at the other side".

Nevertheless, a major barrier for Trump's re-election in 2020 lifted just as a strong field of potential Democratic candidates was forming to select who would take him on.

Barr, nominated to his job by Trump last fall, said their decision was based on the evidence uncovered by Mueller and not based on whether a sitting president can be indicted.

Before completing his probe, Mueller helped secure guilty pleas from five people involved in Trump's presidential campaign including campaign chairman Paul Manafort for a series of financial crimes, and he's been sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison. Asked if the president supports making Mueller's report public, Gidley said, "We haven't discussed that".

Former FBI Director James Comey appeared to respond to the release of the summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia's investigation.

Several Democrats have called for Barr and Mueller to testify before Congress.

He says Democrats are concerned there'll be no "bombshell" in the report, so they're pursing more investigations of the president.

Democrats vowed to press on with their own investigations, while the White House claimed vindication.

On the other hand, Barr said Mueller declined to reach a decision on the evidence against the president of obstruction - nearly guaranteeing that Democrats in Congress will push to investigate this further.

Edmondson told CNN , however, that those misdemeanor charges generally result in no more than a 60-day sentence in county jail. The allegations arose after Kraft was allegedly seen on camera soliciting prostitution on two separate occasions.

"The special counsel's investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russian Federation in its efforts to influence the 2016 USA presidential election", he said. Both he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein decided Mueller's evidence didn't establish that the president committed the obstruction of justice crime.

It was not known what Mueller's report says about another key point: whether Trump committed obstruction of justice to hinder the Russian Federation investigation by acts such as firing FBI Director James Comey in 2017.

Democratic leaders in Congress have rejected talk of impeachment as premature.

"[Attorney General William Barr] says that the President may have acted to obstruct justice, but that for an obstruction conviction, "the government would need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a person, acting with corrupt intent, engaged in obstructive conduct".

However, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, a Democrat, told ABC's "This Week" that his panel has a particular obligation to determine whether Trump was "compromised in any way, whether that is criminal or not".

Barr's letter marked the conclusion of the investigation into allegations that Trump's election campaign coordinated and colluded with Russians to skew the 2016 vote so the billionaire real estate magnate would win.

Trump took White House counsel Pat Cipollone and Emmet Flood with him to Florida.

But while Mr Barr - who was appointed by Mr Trump - concluded that the President had not obstructed justice, he acknowledged that Mr Mueller himself was inconclusive on the question of obstruction.
