Modis policies highlighted Kashmir on worldwide forums, says Qureshi

Four security personnel were killed during an ongoing encounter between Indian forces and militants in the Handwara area of the disputed Kashmir region, officials said Saturday, March 2.

The February 14 suicide attack killed 40 members of India's security forces.

Egypt called for de-escalating the crisis between India and Pakistan, following the latest developments between both countries in the wake of the deadly explosion that occurred in the Indian part of Kashmir.

Later reports said Varthaman complained he suffered "mental harassment" during his captivity, although his Pakistani captors reportedly did not inflict physical harm on the pilot.

Pakistan retaliated, shooting down a fighter jet on Wednesday and detaining its pilot, who was returned to India on Friday.

Pakistan has continued a limited opening of its airspace for commercial flights, after closing it earlier this week at the height of tensions with neighbouring India that saw both countries carry out air raids inside each other's territories for the first time since the 1971 war.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani army announced that two civilians have died as two more were wounded along the LoC in the past 24 hours.

On February 28, the Foreign Office said it received a dossier on the Pulwama attack from the Indian government.

India accuses Pakistan of arming and training the rebels and sending them into Indian-controlled Kashmir to launch attacks against government targets.

Qureshi also said a top Saudi diplomat would soon visit Pakistan and India.

Since then, shelling between both sides has not stopped. Pakistani officials said China is expected to send an envoy to Pakistan and India this coming week. "We are at the mercy of these soldiers", said Mohammed Akram, a resident in the Mendhar area in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
