India's loses 7 spots in global list of happiest nations, ranks 140th

Finland was followed by Nordic neighbors Denmark and Norway in the seventh edition of the World Happiness Report.

Pakistan is among the top 20 gainers on the World Happiness index this year, ranked at 67th place, a jump of eight spots from last year's ranking at 75. Despite the oil business giving the youngest country in the continent hope; frequent political instability seems to have influenced the results making it the most bad country to live in.

A special chapter in the World Happiness Report 2019, produced by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, a United Nations initiative, explored the relation between the two.

The 2019 list only changed a little, with Austria nudging Australia out of the top 10 list. What makes country happy or sad?

A global scale of happiness issued by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network ranks Japan in 58th spot, its lowest showing to date, and Finland in the No. 1 position. "But the response of New Zealand's people to the attacks does".

Special chapters focus on generosity and pro-social behaviour, the effects of happiness on voting behaviour, big data, and the happiness effects of Internet use and addictions.

Where's the U.S.? It just barely made the top 20. Ranked right above Vietnam at 93rd place is China.

The report ranks the world's 156 countries on "how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be".

When visiting Finland it isn't obvious that this is an especially happy place.

Overall, happiness in the United States actually decreased almost a half-rung over the last decade. In the case of Brexit, for instance, while the United Kingdom's GDP increased steadily for roughly a decade, its happiness rating fluctuated-and then declined sharply in the three years leading up to the 2016 referendum to leave the European Union.

"This year's report provides sobering evidence of how addictions are causing considerable unhappiness and depression in the USA", the network's director Jeffrey Sachs said in a statement, adding that they were referring to addictions in many forms from substance abuse to gambling and digital media.
