House Democrats Launch 'Abuse of Power' Investigation into Donald Trump

It is not clear how much President Trump can withhold federal funds to institutions without congressional action, or how long the idea has been discussed at the White House.

Indeed, other House Democrats are sending similar messages.

Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told Chuck Todd of NBC's "Meet the Press" that he also had serious concerns about whether Trump had committed crimes.

Trump also slammed special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow to help Trump win the presidency.

"I think the New Green Deal or whatever the hell they call it - the Green New Deal - I encourage it", Trump said mockingly as he wound up for a round of exaggeration.

In an investigation announced Monday morning by the head of the House Judiciary panel, 81 individuals will be asked to provide documents to the committee, including the Trump's son-in-law and top aide Jared Kushner. What Schiff did not say is at what point House Democrats will decide to pull the trigger.

"This is how I got elected, by being off script. and if we don't go off script, our country is in big trouble, folks", he began.

"The president surrounds himself with some people that maybe he shouldn't have, I don't know", he said."What I'm most concerned about is what took place at the highest levels of our [government]".

Meanwhile, the Justice Department said career ethics officials had advised Attorney General William Barr that he should not recuse himself from overseeing the special counsel investigation - and Barr said he has made a decision to follow that advice.

Robson and Safechuck also sat down with King in an interview that aired last Thursday and stood by their allegations. The judge in the case ruled that Jackson's estate could not be held responsible for Jackson's actions.

Speaking at the 2019 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Saturday, President Trump invited Williams on stage, saying the young activist "took a punch for all of us", and will "be a very wealthy young man" after suing Greenberg and the university.

Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller in May 2017 to take over the Russian Federation investigation after Trump fired Comey, whose agency had led the probe initially.

And Trump reminded the audience that when he called for Russian Federation to hack Hillary Clinton's emails, he was being "sarcastic".

Both sides said they were open to further talks, though a third summit has not been scheduled.

"I said, 'Melania, I'm doing something today, I'm doing it because it really has to be done. he's a bad, bad guy", Trump said, arguing that he thought Democrats would welcome the move given their anger at Comey's handling of the Clinton email investigation.

"We need workers to come in, but they've got to come in legally, and they've got to come in through merit", he said. That is another unresolved question that Mueller is pursuing.

Trump's fierce political campaign against what he calls Mueller's "Witch Hunt" and "hoax" investigation is apparently aimed at discrediting any conclusions that Barr choses to share with Congress and the public.

Whether referring to the President as "him" or "that person in the White House", Booker is trying to leave Trump out of the conversation, so he and his Democratic rivals can introduce themselves - and define their young candidacies - on their own terms.
