Facebook and Instagram users lost access to the social network's applications in parts of the world Wednesday as a result of an outage of undetermined origin.

People have taken to Twitter to share their frustration of not being able to access the websites and apps.

Millions of people are having trouble accessing the two social media websites, and have been for hours, after a reported outage on both services.

We will update this article, as soon as we receive any updates regarding the issue. Some users can, in fact, open the apps but many are complaining that they are unable to post anything, or even like other people's posts.

Facebook and Instagram have been experiencing issues today.

The company also posted a thread on Twitter confirming the outage.

J.Lo & A-Rod Are Engaged - See the Ring!
A few hours before posting the ring, the baseball icon posted his definition of a soulmate on his Instagram stories. This will be the fourth marriage and fifth engagement for Lopez and the second marriage for Rodriguez.

Other users said the outage was light relief. Popping over to won't give users an option to login, and instead will display a mostly blank screen, often calling out error code 2.

Among those having a bit of fun at Facebook's expense were Canterbury Police, who issued a tongue-in-cheek tweet reminding Kiwis not to report the issue to any of its departments.

The outages were reported in the US on the East and West Coasts, as well as in parts of Europe and in other parts of the world, according to Downdetector.

According to some media reports, the site remains down for some users.

This is a developing news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Unfortunately, there's no way to know when Facebook will solve the problem, and the company may never offer a proper explanation about what caused the outage.
