Cristiano Ronaldo Makes European History

The Portuguese superstar scored two headers either side of half-time and a late penalty to clinch a place in Friday's last-eight draw with a dominant display by the Italian champions in Turin.

The incident had the potential to hinder Juventus, but to their credit Allegri's side continued about their business as they went in search of a much-needed goal.

How can there be a special Champions League nights without Cristiano Ronaldo?

Juventus have never before overturned a two-goal deficit at home in an European competition - but then they never had Cristiano Ronaldo leading their attack.

"Atletico are a really tough team to face, but we are strong too and proved we deserved to go through", said Ronaldo.

"The lads have shown great maturity", said Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri.

Atletico were made to pay soon after the restart as Juventus and Ronaldo netted their second of the evening, with the forward's towering header going inches over the line despite the best efforts of Oblak.

Juventus signed Ronaldo last summer from Real Madrid for 100 million euros ($117 million) hoping he would make the difference on the continent.

And five-time Ballon d'Or victor, Ronaldo, pulled out a spectacular performance as he spearheaded the attack along with Federico Bernardeschi and Mario Mandzukic.

That same stock market had taken a hit three weeks ago, with the club's share price dropping more than 9 per cent after its 2-0 loss in Madrid.

Court documents say Vavic was paid $250,000 and designated two students as recruits for his team to facilitate their admission. They've also charged coaches, college test administrators and alleged mastermind William Singer of Newport Beach, California.

Giorgio Chiellini fired home from close range after a goalmouth scramble from a corner, but both the referee and VAR controversially ruled that Ronaldo had kicked the ball out of the hands of goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Bernardeschi sent a curling free-kick just wide minutes later with Ronaldo missing a chance for a second when he headed wide.

Stars like Antoine Griezmann and Diego Godin have stayed with the club despite big offers from rivals, and Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata have been added.

Ronaldo is pure power, and now he's also a sorcerer.

Kean had a chance to score the victor, but failed.

But the decisive goal came with four minutes left when Bernardeschi burst into the penalty area from the left and was brought down by Angel Correa.

Ronaldo has 25 goals in 33 career matches against Atletico Madrid.

"Juventus played in a similar way to what we did in the first leg". "They were just better than us and we have to congratulate them".

"I don't think it was lack of commitment or lack of character", Simeone said.
