Winter storm targets Wisconsin tonight, Tuesday

CBS2's John Elliott said "The problem is it starts as snow, then we see some warm air overrun that". The northern and central parts of the state are expected to get snow as well as a wintry mix, while southern New Jersey is likely to see sleet turning to rain.

"So it's the changing nature of the storm that will cause the problems tomorrow".

That winter storm warning means there is a significant combination of hazardous winter weather either occurring or imminent in the area.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect through 8 a.m. Tuesday for Ottawa and Sandusky County.

Farther south, snow returns to the Sierra on Tuesday night with another 3-5 feet there by Thursday. Rain may also mix in west of interstate 81. The National Weather Service says snow will change to sleet Tuesday night and back over to snow by Wednesday morning.

The winter storm is associated with a Colorado low that will cross southern Ontario Tuesday and Wednesday.

A wintery mix of snow and sleet is forecast to fall overnight Monday and much of Tuesday in the tri-state area, making for a risky day of commuting.

Boston is expected to receive about three to four inches of snow.

Two to 4 inches of snow and sleet is likely in New York City, northeast New Jersey, the Lower Hudson Valley, parts of Long Island and southern CT, the National Weather Service stated Monday morning.

Precipitation will begin as snow overnight Monday.

In addition to areas in the Northeast, eastern Iowa, Wisconsin and northern MI will experience the worst snow.
