US Senator Threatens Maduro With 'Swift, Severe' Consequences if Guaido Harmed

The Trump administration has already imposed sanctions to pressure Maduro's regime and has recognized Juan Guaidó, the speaker of the National Assembly as Venezuela's interim president.

Trump is set to deliver remarks at Florida International University in Miami.

Trump will also say Venezuela should not be "a puppet state" of Cuba and that a peaceful transition to democracy in Venezuela will help promote democracy in Nicaragua and Cuba.

"You will lose everything", Trump warned in his speech, declaring, "Today I ask every member of the Maduro regime: end this nightmare of poverty, hunger and death for your people". The Venezuelan military could play a decisive role in the stalemate but has largely remained loyal to Maduro.

On Saturday, a plane left from Homestead Air Force Base to deliver items such as diapers and medicine, but it remains unclear when citizens will get those supplies as socialist President Nicolás Maduro continues to block foreign aid.

The city is the staging point for foreign humanitarian aid - much of it from the US government - that is being blocked from entry to Venezuela by socialist President Nicolas Maduro.

"This will never happen to us", Trump said.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, a spokesman for the main opposition Congress party, accused Modi of compromising on security. It says it gives only moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.

Venezuela's embattled president, Nicolas Maduro, is rejecting President Donald Trump's call for a new day in Venezuela and comparing the tone of the American president's speech in Miami to that of a Nazi. Trump has said he and Kim have "a very good relationship" and that if they can secure a deal to eliminate Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal, Kim will make his country an "economic powerhouse".

Republicans have portrayed Democratic proposals to expand government-run health insurance programs and combat climate change as socialist, and Trump used Maduro's example in his State of the Union speech earlier this month to caution against the perils of socialism and the policies of US liberals.

The incident on Sunday is the latest point of tension between the global community and Mr Maduro, who is in the grip of a power struggle with Mr Guaido, the head of the National Assembly who proclaimed himself interim president last month.

"People from all over the world want to take part in this message of love, solidarity and denunciation against the aggression that they're trying against the Venezuelan people", Rodriguez said.

The United States has sent tons of aid that is being stockpiled on Colombia's border with Venezuela, but Maduro has refused to let it in.

Critics say Maduro's re-election a year ago was fraudulent, making his second term illegal. He spoke at the FIU event by video before Trump appeared and thanked the president "for his determination and clear leadership in support of democracy and just causes in response to what is happening now in Venezuela".

Trump had been spending the holiday weekend at his private club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
