Phillies acquire catcher J.T. Realmuto from Marlins

The 27-year-old catcher was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday for catcher Jorge Alfaro, pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez, Minor League left-hander Will Stewart and global bonus pool money. By the skin of his teeth, Berry was right, as the Philadelphia Phillies acquired his client on February 7, five days before Marlins pitchers and catchers were due to report to Jupiter, Florida for Spring Training.

The Philadelphia Phillies could be taking the Chicago White Sox route to tempting preferred target and sought-after free agent Bryce Harper to join the franchise this offseason after they landed JT Realmuto via a trade from the Miami Marlins on Thursday. They bolstered their lineup earlier with the additions of shortstop Jean Segura and 2013 NL MVP Andrew McCutchen.

Realmuto has been a Top 5 fantasy catcher for three years running, and he jumped to the No. 1 spot last year (.277/.340/.484, 21 homers). All four National League East teams showed interest in Realmuto at some point over the past year.

The J.T. Realmuto trade saga finally is over. He would check in periodically and said the talks with Marlins president of baseball operations Mike Hill didn't "heat up" until Sunday.

Derek Jeter's destruction of the Marlins is almost finished. "But our goal is to build a long-term sustainable championship organization". Alfaro, 25, is an adequate starting catcher.

Realmuto voiced his displeasure for Jeter's dismantling of the team, where he asked to be traded before Spring Training last season. "If that's what he does in our uniform, that's still the best catcher in baseball, but I'd be lying if I told you we didn't think there was some chance playing half his games in Citizens Bank Park wouldn't make him better".

Grammy Awards 2019: When is red carpet coverage? Is it streaming?
Black Panther won an early Grammy Award for best score soundtrack for visual media in advance of Sunday night's awards ceremony. She shares the win with her co-writers Mark Ronson , Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt .

Sanchez, a hard-throwing 20-year-old Dominican right-hander is considered a top prospect.

Realmuto, 27, just finished his fourth full Major League season and still has two more years of team control before being eligible for free agency. Electric stuff. Three pitch mix.

Berry made another bold declaration late in 2018 - whether the Marlins traded Realmuto or not, the Silver Slugger Award victor had no intention of signing an extension to remain with the Marlins past the 2020 season, when he can become eligible for free-agency.

Klentak also his defense and impact on the clubhouse are also a plus.

Realmuto is under contract for $6 million for 2019 and has another year of arbitration that will likely end up in the $10-15 million range. The team added both Neil Walker and Curtis Granderson recently in low cost/high reward deals that could pan out and help this team win more than 63 games as it did past year.
