Huawei Technologies unveiled a US$2,600 (S$3,500) folding smartphone on Sunday which it said was primed for next generation 5G mobile connections, even as the USA campaigns to bar the Chinese company from such networks over security concerns.

Those monochrome sensors capture a wider spectrum of light than their colour counterparts - 2.9 times more, Nokia owned HMD Global says - and this translates into producing images with extra detail.

Nokia 9 PureView is all about its five cameras with the five lenses spaced out in a circle at the back of the device along with a time-of-flight depth sensor as well as flash unit.

The company was showing it could innovate by delivering the world's first five-camera array system in a smartphone, Chief Executive Florian Seiche said in an interview.

HMD Global now sells Nokia phones in partnership with Nokia and Foxconn. This is in addition to a single camera sensor taking shots of multiple exposures itself depending on the lighting conditions.

Furthermore, the phone will also include an in-display fingerprint face sensor and a face unlock mechanism via the phone's front camera.

Priced at $699, the phone also comes with wireless charging, an OLED screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and a fingerprint scanner to give it the security it needed.
