Ireland: Donegal measles outbreak rises to 7 cases

According to VCH, Vancouver is under the acceptable average for vaccination rates. However, he made no commitment as to when or how such a measure might be implemented.

A petition calling for mandatory measles vaccinations for children attending public school in B.C. had nearly 35,000 signatures on Wednesday evening.

The cost of Washington's measles outbreak has surpassed $1 million as more than 200 health-department staffers from the state and Clark County focus their efforts on the disease.

Measles can spread through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes. The petition goes on to state that diseases such as measles have a 10 day incubation period in which the patient can be contagious with showing symptoms.

"The change in immunization schedule may have resulted in fewer opportunities to provide the second dose of MMR containing vaccine prior to the seventh birthday, explaining the drop in measles and mumps coverage in 2018", says the report. "Vaccination rates are steadily decreasing which means we are seeing more cases of vaccine-preventable diseases in areas with clusters of unvaccinated children". Most cases occur in unimmunized people, including visitors to Canada, who have travelled overseas.

There are now 17 states, including Washington where a measles outbreak began last month, that allow parents to opt out of having their children vaccinated for "philosophical beliefs".

"I'm not in favour of mandatory immunization, of forcing people to do something against their will", said Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C's Provincial Health Officer. But sometimes, people will object and will not immunize.

In that post, which also sought donations, Stone said Mueller's tactics were "straight out of the gestapo's playbook". Prosecutors said Stone lied about it to the House Intelligence Committee and told a witness to lie about it too.

A new study released Thursday is showing that the majority of Canadians support mandatory vaccinations for children entering school.

The B.C. government is looking at requiring parents to register with schools whether they have vaccinated their children or not.

Asked about why he offered no commitment or timeline for mandatory reporting, Dix said certain procedures must be in place first.

"We know that there are some parents who are choosing not to vaccinate their children, or delaying vaccinations because of misinformation they are getting from "anti-vaccination" sources", Dr. Hoyano told Victoria Buzz.

With the new Clark County case, there have been no new locations identified where people may have been exposed to measles.

In a follow-up on the measles outbreak in Donegal, the Ireland Health Service Executive (HSE) says the outbreak total has risen to seven. It said data shows 83 per cent of babies born in 2016 had received at least one dose of MMR, noting that all vaccinations are registered and officials believe the rate is actually between 85 and 90 per cent.
