Green Book wins best picture in setback for Netflix

Netflix was a victor at the 2019 Oscars, taking home multiple Academy Awards during Sunday's ceremony for its two critically acclaimed films.

According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Roma was the ninth film to be nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film but the first to win it.

"I grew up watching foreign language films and learning so much from them". The musical drama also took home awards in the Best Sound Mixing, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Editing.

"Roma" stars Yalitza Aparicio as a domestic worker named Cleo who becomes pregnant as she cares for a family with four children as the parents are splitting up.

This is the first year that the popular streaming channel has scored an Oscar nomination in the form of best picture for the movie Roma.

We bet most of you have already watched one of Marvel's most successful films, Black Panther when it first released in India. If you feel like celebrating Black Panther's win by re-watching it, the film is now available to stream on HotStar Premium. The biggest was Cuaron's win for Best Director, which was expected since he'd also won that award at the Golden Globes.

Set in India, Period: End Of Sentence won the Best Documentary Short Subject at the 91st Academy Awards.

"Roma" was the most personal of the films directed by Cuaron, whose career began in television in Mexico in the early 1990s.

Yalitza is up for Best Actress and Marina is nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Cuaron shot his own film when frequent collaborator Emmanuel "Chivo" Lubezki wasn't available and tonight noted, "It's very well known that Billy Wilder had in his office a sign that said 'What would Lubitsch have done?' For me it was 'What would Chivo have done?'"
