Devils Trade Goalie Keith Kinkaid to the Blue Jackets

A day after losing one of their top goal scorers Matt Duchene, the Ottawa Senators have now sent their young gun Ryan Dzingel to the Columbus Blue Jackets as well.

The Penguins made two trades prior to the NHL Trade deadline Monday afternoon. It's probably fair to assume Ottawa would want a similar return to what it received in its Duchene trade when the Sens received a first-rounder in Vitaly Abramov, a prospect in Jonathan Davidsson and two first-round picks (2019 first round and 2020 conditional first round).

Cam Atkinson had a goal and an assist, and Boone Jenner and Pierre-Luc Dubois also scored for the Blue Jackets, who have won seven of their last 10. The 2019 pick is top-three protected, while the 2020 pick is dependent on Duchene re-signing in Columbus. Dzingel was a pending unrestricted free-agent this summer but increased his trade stock dramatically by setting a new career-high in assists (22) and points (44) through just 44 games.

The trade was announced shortly after Duchene had a goal and an assist in his new team's 4-0 win over San Jose.

It's also an insurance policy for the Blue Jackets since No. 1 goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has declined to sign contract extension and will be a free agent at the end of the season. Duchene was held pointless.

The teams meet Tuesday night in Columbus, Ohio, in what will be the first of three meetings in 12 days, games that could help shape where they finish in the tight Metropolitan Division - or if they make the playoffs at all.

Amtrak passengers in Portland, Oregon, share stories after being stuck for hours
The area where the train is stranded got 10 to 14 inches of snow by Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service . An Amtrak train carrying 183 people has been stranded in OR for more than a day and a half in wintry conditions.

"It's one of those things where you're damned if you do and damned if you don't", Kekalainen said. Selected 24th overall by Chicago out of Boston College in 2010, Hayes never signed with Blackhawks and instead inked a free-agent deal with NY in August 2014.

"He got put in a hard situation with two of his real high-end players that weren't willing to commit to re-sign", MacLellan said.

And he believes there will be time to restock some of the draft pick they traded. He's a sub par player with speed, but lie John Tortorella said, "I don't think he knows how to play". "He was part of this team's eventual transformation since he took over a regular role in 2014-15 and we greatly appreciate his efforts over his time here".

The Blue Jackets have won seven of 10 and jumped into third place of the Metropolitan Division, a point ahead of Pittsburgh, which is now ninth and out of the playoff picture.

Meanwhile Ottawa can now focus its attention entirely on the most important asset under its label in the lead-up to Monday's trade deadline.
