New Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts: 'There are movie moments still to come'

As it turned out, that was a pretty good sales pitch with Alabama graduate transfer Jalen Hurts picking the Sooners on Wednesday for his final college season.

Riley made former Oklahoma quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray Big 12 Champions, Heisman Trophy winners and the Sooners clinched a berth in the College Football Playoff the last two seasons.

The 20-year old Houston native writes: "I've chose to take my talents to the University of Oklahoma, where I will continue my development as both a quarterback and as a student". After going 26-2 as the starting QB for Alabama over his freshman and sophomore seasons, Hurts was famously benched in the CFP National Championship Game against Georgia previous year. Still, he threw for 4,861 yards and 40 touchdowns in two years as a starter while rushing for another 1,809 yards and two touchdowns.

Plus, playing against the Big 12's defenses, which range from mediocre to practically nonexistent, doesn't hurt either.

While Tagovailoa ultimately claimed the starting job this season, Hurts stuck around and played in 13 of Alabama's 15 games.

Canada has updated its travel advisory for China to warn Canadians of "the risk of arbitrary enforcement of local laws". Freeland said discussions were happening regularly between officials "at a number of levels" in both countries.

It's a win-win for Hurts as well as for the Sooners, who automatically become a prime College Football Playoff contender in their quest to make a Playoff appearance for a fourth time in what will become the six-year history of that postseason championship format.

Does it hurt Lincoln Riley's recruiting by getting grad transfer quarterbacks?

Mayfield, of course, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and just completed an outstanding rookie season with the previously hapless Cleveland Browns. Hurts wrote. "But now it's also time for me to start a new chapter in my story". He could still transfer to West Virginia but would have to sit out a year and be left with just one year of eligibility.

Jalen Hurts is off the market - and he's not making his way to South Florida. He finished his junior season 51 of 70 passing for 765 yards, including eight touchdowns and two interceptions. He came off the bench to lead the Crimson Tide to a comeback victory in the SEC title game after Tagovailoa injured his ankle. With Hurt aboard, look for them to be in national championship contention again. Sure, but Oklahoma is a great spot for him.
