Man Opens Fire on Car, Kills 7-Year-Old Girl

Authorities are asking Houston-area residents to review video surveillance for any images of a pickup whose driver they say fired into a auto carrying a family, killing a 7-year-old girl and wounding the child's mother.

"I heard shots start firing and they came through my window".

The red pickup fled the scene after the shooting.

The 7-year-old girl's mother was also struck in the arm and taken to the hospital.

Sheriff's Maj. Jesse Razo said the other girls who were inside the auto when the shooting happened were "shaken" and "devastated".

The unidentified man pulled his red pickup truck beside a parked vehicle and began shooting, killing 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes, The Associated Press reported Monday.

The gunman was described as a bearded man in his 40s wearing a red hoodie. "A total of 5 occupants in the vehicle witnessed this child, their loved one, shot and killed before their eyes". Washington's three other daughters were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, CBS affiliate KHOU reported.

It wasn't clear what triggered the shooting. We will locate you, we will find you, ' he added.

Investigators are not sure whether the shooting was random or if the family was targeted. "The motive is unknown right now", Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland told CNN.

Homicide detectives were scouring the area and checking surveillance video for clues. "He's not human", the relative said of the suspect.
