House rejects Democrats' bill to reopen government

After a fast food feast flop at the White House, celebrities are stepping in to show the Clemson football team how to celebrate a College Football Playoff National Championship.

Said Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., "The shutdown will eventually take us to a place where the average American is angry at and sick of all of us".

President Donald Trump talks to the press about the table full of fast food in the State Dining Room of the White House in Washington, Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, for the reception for the Clemson Tigers. "Lots of hamburgers, lots of pizza", he said.

Shutdown discussion aside, punters on social media had plenty to say about the rather odd event, including but not limited to the very real possibility the food was cold by the time it got to the players, and the unusual pairing of gold candelabras and fine silverware with quarter pounders and nuggets.

The White House claimed Tuesday that congressional Democrats turned down an offer from President Donald Trump to meet for lunch at the White House and discuss a deal to end the partial government shutdown.

He also said the house speaker's party becomes more of a political loser as the president continues to shine a spotlight on the human tragedies from its open border policies.

A third wrote, "Think about how long ago that fast food had to be prepared in order to get it into the White House by now and how cold it is".

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said the partial shutdown will cost the airline $US25 million in lost revenue in January because fewer government contractors are travelling.

After winning the National Basketball Association title in 2017, the Warriors were asked about visiting the White House to meet with Trump.

The move has affected an estimated 800,000 public sector workers, including White House residence staff, who have been on mandatory leave or working without pay for a record 24 days.
