House Dems Announce Bill That Would Force Trump to Disclose Tax Returns

It was a short celebration before the really hard work begins. She did so from 2007 to 2011.

'We'll continue discussing of course, but it's very hard to see how progress will be made unless they open up the government'. "I don't call it a shutdown", Trump said.

Republicans said the new round of talks might be more productive now that Pelosi is speaker.

Among them are the first Muslim congresswomen - Michigan's Rashida Tlaib and Minnesota's Ilhan Omar - and the first Native American women to serve - New Mexico's Debra Haaland and Kansas' Sharice Davids.

This is the most diverse Congress in American history.

Not later than the date that is 30 days after the date of enactment of this section, an individual who is the President or Vice President on such date of enactment shall submit to the Federal Election Commission a copy of the income tax returns for the 10 most recent taxable years for which a return has been filed with the Internal Revenue Service.
Many are first time members of Congress.

She didn't back down Friday, tweeting that "I will always speak truth to power".

Her love of politics goes way back, often showing visitors the photo of her as a teenager meeting President John F. Kennedy.

And as Donald Trump has discovered lately she is a formidable force.

Asked whether he accepted responsibility for the shutdown, Trump responded: "You can call it the Schumer or the Pelosi or the Trump shutdown, it doesn't matter to me".

"No one ever won betting against Nancy Pelosi".

In her first act as speaker, Pelosi announced that Democrats would pass legislation to re-open the government and end the shutdown.

The House voted straight away to start the process of ending the shutdown.

His comments came as one new Congresswoman even told a rally in MI on Thursday to 'impeach the motherf*****'.

Already, one Democrat, Brad Sherman from California isn't going along with Ms Pelosi's plea to "cool it" for a while.

Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., meanwhile, announced that he was introducing articles of impeachment against Trump, whom he accused of obstructing justice by firing former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey in 2017, among other alleged misdeeds. He was one of three Democrats who started moves to impeach the president past year.

In a December 11 meeting with Pelosi and Schumer, Trump said he would be "proud" to shut the government over the security issue and would not blame Democrats. They have made it clear they will investigate every aspect of Mr Trump's businesses, his personal finances and his staff's contacts with foreigners.

However, the spending packages do not include the $5 billion in border wall funding that the Trump administration has requested from Congress, and the president said that he would not sign legislation that fails to provide border wall funding.

Trump is withholding his support for a bill that would fully fund the government until he secures money for the wall.

The fight over the wall is setting the stage for what could be a tumultuous final two years in office for Trump faced with a hostile Democratic-controlled House equipped with investigative powers.

Democrats emerged from the roughly two-hour meeting, which both sides said was contentious at times, to report little if any progress.
