Apple's CES OOH Message Makes Privacy Clear 01/08/2019

While the ad makes a jab at Google, Facebook, and other digital and electronics companies that fail when it comes to consumer privacy, Apple wants to make clear that the company will keep private the data collected through Apple Pay, Face ID, and the health data aggregated by the Apple Watch.

Lora Haddock is the founder and CEO of the sex toy company Lora DiCarlo.

The show's organizer, the Consumer Technology Association, said in an email to Lora DiCarlo that it reserved the right to disqualify any entry "deemed by CTA in their sole discretion to be immoral, obscene, indecent, profane or not in keeping with CTA's image".

The annual Consumer Electronics Show is expected to bring 200,000 people to Las Vegas this week.

But a month later they were informed by the administrators at CES and the CTA that the award had been rescinded, and that they would not be allowed to showcase the product, or even exhibit it at CES 2019.

"Putting aside for a moment the implication that women's sexual wellness products are somehow immoral or obscene - if we didn't fit their policy, how in the world did our application even get past the first round of vetting by CTA staff, let alone receive high marks across the board from their expert judges?"

TOF or Time of Flight technology is basically the time taken for the light to bounce back off an object to create a 3D map. Some previous rumors suggest that the third camera will be a 3D ToF sensor, but it's still all speculations for now.

Pleasure product start-up Lora DiCarlo was selected as a CES 2019 Innovation Awards honoree in the robotics and drone category for its Osé "personal massager".

If you ask us, a product created to empower women's sexuality and health is far from "profane", and as Haddock made clear in her blog post, it practically screams robotics.

"Unfortunately, [Osé] does not fit into any of our existing product categories and should not have been accepted for the Innovation Awards Program", it reads.

OhMiBod, another sex toy company, has shown products for years, and won top honors, also in 2016, for the Lovelife Krush, a device for tracking kegels to help women suffering from pelvic floor pain. She also points out that CES allowed a VR porn company to show its stuff at CES in 2017, and that a sex robot for men was exhibited in 2018. But Apple never went to CES.

Furthermore, the presence of women at the tradeshow is relatively less, be it female-focussed products or female presenters.
