Trump To Pick Heather Nauert As UN Envoy, To Replace Nikki Haley

Donald Trump has chose to name the state department spokeswoman Heather Nauert as the ambassador to the United Nations, a source familiar with his decision told Reuters.

If her appointment is confirmed she will replace Ms Haley, who had held the role since November 2016.

If confirmed, she would replace outgoing ambassador, Nikki Haley, who is set to leave the post at the end of the year.

Nauert, 48, worked as a Fox News host prior to her role in the State Department.

Having the direct support of the president and Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, could buttress her image, however, among global diplomats at the United Nations, who have bristled at Donald Trump's "America First" foreign policy.

"She's excellent, she's been with us a long time, she's been a supporter for a long time", he said at the time.

When she announced her decision to step down the president called her a "very special person" and said she had told him some months before that she wanted to take some time off.

NSW police have stated they are comfortable with the strength of the case against Dawson despite not finding the body of Lyn. Speaking to A Current Affair last night, Simms said he was "stunned" by today's development but was staying hopeful.

Plucked from Fox by the White House to serve as State Department spokeswoman, Nauert catapulted into the upper echelons of the agency's hierarchy when Tillerson was sacked in March and replaced with Mike Pompeo. Trump is expected to announce the nomination on Friday.

Still, with Trump, no staffing decision is final until he makes the formal announcement, since he has been known to change course in the past.

Her appointment to the United Nations role would have to be approved by the US Senate.

The post is considered one of the highest profile positions in USA diplomacy.

"She is clearly not qualified for this job, but these days it seems that the most important qualification is that you show up on Donald Trump's TV screen, and if you're successful in that endeavor, then you seem to be a top candidate to get a whole bunch of top positions in the US government".

Other candidates considered for the job, according to Bloomberg, were former White House adviser Dina Powell, ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft and ambassador to Germany Ric Grenell.
