Thousands of Northern Ireland O2 customers lose data services over technical issue

O2 and Softbank Group Corp's 9984.T mobile phone unit, both software customers of Ericsson ERICb.ST , reported disruptions to data services on Thursday that affected millions of customers.

It is not clear when the issue will be resolved, but O2 said it would share further updates as soon as possible.

Mr Evans said in a statement: "I want to let our customers know how sorry I am for the impact our network data issue has had on them, and reassure them that our teams, together with Ericsson, are doing everything we can".

"The faulty software that has caused these issues is being decommissioned and we apologise not only to our customers but also to their customers", Ekholm said. In some cases, the 3G network services automatically kicked in.

Some Japanese on Twitter said they were anxious by no-signal notifications on their mobile phones and found the glitch inconvenient.

It has confirmed engineers are working to fix the issue.

Google May Be Shutting Down Hangouts For Consumers Sometime In 2020
Google unveiled a new strategy for Hangouts in 2017 when it launched the two messaging applications Allo and Duo. Hangouts Chat offers group-chat functionality similar to Slack, Hangouts Meet video conferencing.

O2 says that voice services should not be affected by the outage.

O2's 4G cellular network has been restored, the British mobile operator said on Friday, following a software glitch which caused smartphone users to lose internet access. They're now working hard to resolve the issue so we would imagine it won't be too long before its back up.

Calls and texts were, initially at least, unaffected but some users later reported they were unable to place telephone calls.

Ericsson was once the world's biggest supplier of mobile communications gear but has been overtaken by China's Huawei Technologies and Finland's Nokia.

It has staked its recovery on demand for next-generation 5G mobile equipment, and analysts have said it stands to benefit from the problems of market leader Huawei.

An expired certificate was the cause of a data outage across O2 and SoftBank mobile services in the United Kingdom and Japan, respectively, Ericsson has revealed.
