Cardinals stun fading Packers for 20-17 win at Lambeau

It was a long time coming and the Green Bay Packers decided they couldn't complete the 2018 season with Mike McCarthy as head coach and gave him his walking papers hours after the team lost to the Arizona Cardinals.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, McCarthy was brought in to a meeting following a 20-17 home loss to the Cardinals and fired.

"The 2018 season has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers", Murphy said in a statement.

Team President Mark Murphy says the search for the next Head Coach will begin immediately.

Working on a snap count, the Packers' veteran receiver caught three passes for 25 yards, including a 9-yard reception on Green Bay's final drive to set up a 49-yard field-goal try for Mason Crosby.

McCarthy coached the team for 13 seasons, winning a Super Bowl in 2011. After being unable to get enough wins without Rodgers last season to stay in contention, McCarthy entered the year on the hot seat and never got off of it. But Green Bay's offense had stagnated - as we noted recently the Packers were always going to have to make changes after this season.

Wilder remains WBC heavyweight champion after draw with Fury
Former two-weight world champion Andre Ward wrote on Twitter: "A draw, I understand (even tho I feel Fury won by a 2 or 3 rds)". This performance showed he has convincingly recovered from that, and he may even again prove the best heavyweight in the world.

McCarthy was hired in 2006, replacing Mike Sherman.

The Cardinals' defense, meanwhile held Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in check, with 233 yards and 31-for-50 passing.

"Yeah, a lot probably".

"Yeah, I mean I'm not even thinking about that right now", Rodgers said when asked if he would have any role after the season with general manager Brian Gutekunst or Murphy about what direction they should go with the coaching staff.

We're past the point of performance overly mattering in this situation considering Lewis can't win a playoff game and has only eight wins against the Steelers in 16 years. Green Bay's playoff hopes took another significant blow.
