Prince Harry and his pregnant wife Meghan Markle will move into a historic cottage on the royal family's Windsor Estate early next year, Kensington Palace said today.

The estate is the site of Frogmore House, a lovely 17th century manor which has been a royal residence since 1792, which was where Harry and Meghan had their evening reception after their wedding in May. The couple have lived at Nottingham Cottage since their engagement a year ago.

The Sun reports that the royal couple, who married in May, intend to move into Frogmore Cottage, the home gifted to them by Queen Elizabeth. "The Duke and Duchess's office will continue to be based at Kensington Palace".

Frogmore Cottage has more than enough space for the Sussex family and a nursery for their baby - and even a gym or a yoga studio - with 10 bedrooms.

It was initially claimed the move next door to the Queen was down to "tension" between brothers Harry and William. It is near Frogmore House, the grand 17th century manor house where Meghan and Harry held their evening wedding reception for 200 friends after their nuptials earlier in the day.

The cottage is now divided into five units which were home to royal staff.

Meghan and Harry also have a home in the Cotswolds, where they spend most weekends as an escape from London.

Frogmore is now uninhabited and is only used by the Royal family for private and public functions. Their official residence is still at Kensington Palace.

While William and Kate chose very royal names for their children, the 70-year-old hinted that his other son might go down a different path, The Mirror reports.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge typically spend Christmas with the Queen.

Royal insiders had expected Harry and Meghan to move into Apartment 1 at Kensington Palace, now occupied by the Queen's cousin, the Duke of Gloucester, 74, and his Danish-born wife, Birgitte, 72.

Frogmore Cottage was once home to Abdul Karim, Victoria's "Munshi", or teacher.
