United States bans fan flames of anti-American sentiment in Iran

The Trump administration has worked to crush Tehran's oil exports to zero since May, when Mr. Trump withdrew the us from the multilateral deal endorsed by the Obama administration that eased global sanctions in exchange for curbs on Iran's suspect nuclear programs. The Europeans have mounted a drive to save the agreement without the US, fearing that the new sanctions will drive Iran to pull out and resume all of its nuclear work.

The names of more than 700 individuals, entities, vessels and aircraft will be put on the sanctions list, including major banks, oil exporters and shipping companies.

Donald Trump, since breaking that deal in May, has vowed to cut off Iranian oil revenue completely, and oil exporters and tankers will be among 700 companies, individuals, vessels and aircraft that will be added to a United States sanctions blacklist on Monday.

In the wake of President Donald Trump's withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal earlier this year, Washington will reinstate more economic penalties against Tehran at midnight on Monday.

'With God's help and the resistance and perseverance of the pious and revolutionary people of Islamic Iran, this last weapon of the enemy - the economic war - which is accompanied by America's widespread media operation against the nation of Iran, will be defeated, ' Jafari said.

US President Donald Trump withdrew from its 2015 nuclear deal with Iran in May, describing it as "defective at its core". "SWIFT now must make a choice", he said: refuse to deal with Iran banks on the USA blacklist, or face sanctions itself.

The US had insisted on cutting exports to zero but that seems unlikely as it would increase the price of oil, says Scott Lucas, a professor of global politics at Birmingham University.

Turkey and Iraq will receive exemptions from United States sanctions on Iran when they come into force on Monday, according to officials from both countries.

Mr Pompeo said: "Our ultimate aim is to compel Iran to permanently abandon its well-documented outlaw activities and behave as a normal country".

U.S. secretary of state Mike Pompeo said Friday that the USA would temporarily allow eight countries to continue buying Iranian oil even after enforcing its sanctions on Tehran.

Pompeo defended the oil waivers and noted that since May, when the US began to press countries to stop buying Iranian oil, Iran's exports had dropped by more than 1 million barrels per day.

Pompeo added that the sanctions are "aimed at fundamentally altering the behavior of the Islamic Republic of Iran".

The crowd chanted "Down with US" and "Death to Israel" during the rally in the Iranian capital on Sunday, and state TV said similar demonstrations were held in other cities and towns. "Iran's oil exports are decreasing and difficulties paying Iran for oil with hard currency are evident".

Pompeo, meanwhile, expressed confidence that the United States is placing maximum pressure on Iran's government largely by targeting the energy industry.

Trump tweeted a picture of himself in front of an icy-effect grey background, with "sanctions are coming" in Game OF Thrones style font.

The US granted waivers to eight countries but only on condition they make substantial cuts to their purchases.

Pompeo said that countries like India, if it gets the exemption, would be asked to bring down their oil imports from Iran to zero in six months' time.
