'She Loved People': Parents Remember Girl Scout Killed by Huffing Driver

A 10-year-old girl faces charges in the death of a 6-month-old baby after allegedly stomping on the boy's head.

District Attorney Wade Newell said the girl was in foster care at a home in Tilden, WI, which also served as an in-home daycare, on October 30, when she accidentally dropped the 6-month-old boy.

She was arrested and later admitted that she hurt the baby saying that she dropped him.

The girl's biological parents appeared with her in court, but the daycare where the baby died is reportedly run by her foster parents.

It's been a long weekend for the community of Chippewa Falls after 3 Girl Scouts and one mother were killed in a hit-and-run Saturday morning.

Lake Hallie Police Sergeant Daniel Sokup said Mr Treu's black Ford F-150 ute crossed a lane and veered into a roadside ditch, striking the victims.

Nine-year-old Jayna Kelley, 10-year-old Autum Helgeson, 10-year-old Haylee Hickle, and her mother, 32-year-old Sara Jo Schneider, were all killed in the tragedy.

The 11 charges filed against Colten Treu on Tuesday include four counts of vehicular homicide and four counts of a hit-and-run resulting in death.

Treu remains at the county jail on $250,000 bail, reports CBS News correspondent DeMarco Morgan.

Treu and the passenger told police they had been "huffing," or intentionally inhaling chemical fumes, police have said.

The local Girl Scout group consisted of 12 persons (5 adults and 7 children) who participating in a highway cleanup project.

Also Monday, authorities were prepared to release the identities of those killed in the crash late Saturday morning along County Road P near the Hwy.

A 10-year-old girl has been taken into custody over the murder of a six-month-old baby.

The Star Tribune is not identifying the girl because her case likely will be referred to juvenile court.

"She would like to return home, and given her age, that may be appropriate", Harless said, according to the Associated Press.

"She loved people. And was going to do something wonderful someday", Robin said. He hit his head on a footstool and cried, the sheriff said.
