Sen. Johnson asks White House for response on Ivanka Trump emails

"What Ivanka Trump did, all in the presidential records, everything is there", Trump said.

After three years of harping on about Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server to send government documents, US President Donald Trump's daughter and senior advisor, Ivanka Trump, has been caught doing the exact same thing. They are asking for the White House to provide an accounting of the official emails exchanged on Ivanka Trump's personal account and to certify that the emails had been preserved according with federal law.

So it looks like all those stones Trump was throwing while campaigning to become president have boomeranged back and walloped his daughter. The White House investigated her email usage on Monday, and it was found that she had emailed Cabinet officials, White House aides, and assistants from the private email instead of an official one. "In both her use of personal email and post-discovery preservation efforts, Ms. Trump appears to have done exactly what Secretary Clinton did - conduct over which President Trump and many members of Congress regularly lambasted Secretary Clinton and which, they asserted, demonstrated her unfitness for office".

Some advisers to President Trump were alarmed when they heard this news, the Post reports, because of the similarities to Clinton's email use. The situation was immediately compared to the email scandal with Hillary Clinton in 2016, widely used by Trump in his presidential campaign. Donald Trump used the issue to call for Clinton to be jailed, which led to rally chants of "Lock her up". He stressed that Ivanka's emails did not contain classified information, that none had been deleted and that Ivanka was not trying to hide anything. According to the committee's incoming chairman, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), a bipartisan probe launched previous year stalled after the White House failed to provide the requested information, the Post reported. "My main priority as Chairman will be to focus on the issues that impact Americans in their everyday lives".

"My goal is to prevent this from happening again - not to turn this into a spectacle the way Republicans went after Hillary Clinton", Cummings said.

Liberals cry hypocrisy after reports of Ivanka's private email use, but it's not the same as Hillary

"They aren't classified like Hillary Clinton. While transitioning into government, until the White House provided her the same guidance they had to others who started before she did, Ms. Trump sometimes used her private account, nearly always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family".

When asked to comment on the possible probe, Trump stated that "Ivanka can take care of herself".

"The parallels between Ms. Trump's conduct and that of Secretary Clinton are inescapable", Austin Evers, the group's executive director, said in the letter. "Even Ivanka, if she was interviewed about it, she'd have to say it was a mistake".

The Post reported Ivanka Trump's attorney, Abbe Lowell, forwarded all the emails he believed were related to official government business to her government email account. He wrote that her use of a private email account potentially raises national security concerns.
