Kemp, who oversees elections as Georgia's secretary of state, vehemently denies charges that he's used his office to make it harder for minorities to vote.

Winfrey blasted attacks on Abrams that she says she saw in her hotel room - Republican ads casts Abrams as "too extreme" and "radical" for Georgia - as "noise" that is "designed to confound you with fear".

Winfrey called Abrams a "change-maker" who represents the values of all Georgians. I'm not trying to test any waters - don't want to go in those waters.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, a Democrat and former Georgia governor, has called on Kemp to step down from the secretary of state position because of what Carter said was a conflict of interest.

In a Thursday speech delivered before a town hall, Winfrey praised gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and advised people to honor their ancestors by exercising their right to vote.

Pence said Abrams is being bankrolled by Hollywood liberals, referring to Winfrey and actor Will Ferrell.

Mr. Kemp's Democratic opponent, Stacey Abrams, on Sunday said the announcement was baseless and desperate.

Civil rights groups sued Kemp in October over 50,000 voting registration applications that were placed on hold due to Georgia's "exact-match" law which requires personal information on voter applications to match state databases. But she also said the election is about issues like expanding Medicaid insurance and focusing state spending on public education, job training and small business startups. "I'm not testing the waters".

"I am here today because Stacey Abrams cares about the things that matter", Winfrey said. Pence is scheduled to appear with Republican nominee Brian Kemp at three rallies around the state. Winfrey continued, despite the woman's surprise.

"The Democratic Party of Georgia shares that concern, but we did not create, discover or attempt to take advantage of the deeply vulnerable system used by the Secretary of State's office".
