Mueller: Ex-Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort lied, broke plea agreement

WASHINGTON-The special counsel in the Russian Federation investigation is accusing former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort of violating his plea agreement by repeatedly lying to federal investigators, an extraordinary allegation that could expose him to a lengthier prison sentence - and potentially more criminal charges.

The latest development could indicate a set back for Mueller's investigation if Manafort had not been cooperating. The accusation implies that Manafort has acted in violation of his plea agreement with the government in September which required him to "fully, truthfully, completely, and forthrightly" cooperate with the government's investigation.

The conventional wisdom among legal experts seems to be that Manafort did not care about telling the truth because he's going all in on President Donald Trump pardoning him.

Deadlocked charges from the previous trial were to be dismissed if there was "successful co-operation" with the special counsel. It goes on to say that Mueller's team will ask a judge to sentence Manafort for lying to the special counsel.

"After signing the plea agreement, Manafort committed federal crimes by lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Counsel's Office on a variety of subject matters, which constitute breaches of the agreement", Mueller's office said.

Manafort was convicted of various financial crimes in August before reaching an agreement in September to cooperate with Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.

The torpedoing of Manafort's plea deal, disclosed in a court filing Monday, also results in special counsel Robert Mueller's team losing a co-operating witness from the top of Donald Trump's presidential campaign who was present for several key episodes under investigation.

Khashoggi was reportedly met by four people, one of whom grabbed his arm as soon as he entered the consulate, Haberturk said. It takes two to tango and Iran has to end also. "We will not reveal the source of the recordings ", Akar said.

Manafort, who worked for the Trump campaign for almost six months in the middle of 2016, agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy against the United States and another count of obstruction of justice in a deal to avert a second trial on money laundering and illegal lobbying charges.

In August, Manafort was convicted of financial fraud relating to his work as a political consultant in Ukraine.

It did not give details of what Manafort allegedly lied about.

Manafort has been held in a Virginia jail since June, after he and Kilimnik were accused of attempting to tamper with possible witnesses before his trial.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in that case in February.

Manafort already faces up to five years in prison on the two charges in his plea agreement.

"Manafort met with the government on numerous occasions and answered the government's questions", the report said, citing the former chairman.
