At least 1,000 structures destroyed by fast-moving fire in Northern California

At least 1,000 structures destroyed by fast-moving fire in Northern California

With the Camp Fire still raging, Butte County school officials have chose to close all public schools until at least after the Thanksgiving break.

There's a lot of dry vegetation for the fires to burn.

As of Friday morning, evacuation centers were set up at Thousand Oaks High School, at 2323 North Moorpark Road; the Borchard Community Center at 190 Reino Road in Newbury Park; and Camarillo Community Center at 1605 Burnley St. Patients were evacuated from the hospital before a massive wildfire swept through the area, Thursday.

"That fire from the second it started was off to the races", said Ken Pimlott, director of Cal Fire.

The official estimate of acreage burned is nearly certainly on the low end, as the fire is spreading at an astonishing 0.32km² per minute.

The Woolsey blaze was also burning in parts of Los Angeles County. The blaze broke out in the Hill Canyon area and in just 12 minutes jumped the 101 Freeway. The fire now covers an area of about 35,000 acres (14,150 hectares).

The Woolsey Fire appeared to be the more risky of the two blazes, and was burning south through the Kanan Road corridor toward Malibu and the ocean.

Multiple injuries in shooting at California bar
A gunman shooting from the 32 floor of a hotel and casino with high power weapons killed 58 people. A man who says he was in the bar tells ABC news reports that he saw a man shoot into the crowd.

Calabasas and Malibu are home to numerous celebrities and some have been posting on social media, including reality TV star Kim Kardashian.

The L.A. Times reported that a total of 75,000 homes in both Ventura and Los Angeles counties are now under mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders, including Westlake Village and parts of Calabasas, where numerous entertainers including Alyssa Milano and Kim Kardashian have lavish homes. "I pray everyone is safe", she wrote. "I pray everyone is safe", she said.

The singer Cher, who is performing in Las Vegas, tweeted that she was anxious about her Malibu home.

"Fortunately for us, it is burning into the old footprint of the Springs Fire of 2013, and the fire activity there has diminished", he told reporters Friday, adding that this has allowed crews to "focus a little bit more heavily" on the Woolsey Fire instead. Mike Batz, pastor of Stirling City AG told Allen that he could see aircraft dropping fire retardant directly behind his home as the Camp Fire approached. More than 6,700 homes and businesses were destroyed and residents fled for their lives. "It was the event we have feared for a long time", Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said at a press conference. Three others were found outside homes and one inside a home.

"This event was the worst-case scenario", he said. So you take it personally and we haven't really had time to reflect. Firefighters were able to stop the fire at the edge of the city, where evacuation orders remained in place Friday, Cal Fire Cpt. Some buildings caught fire and were damaged but the main facility, Adventist Health Feather River Hospital, was not, spokeswoman Jill Kinney said.

Such was the intensity of the blaze that much of the debris is hard to recognise.

Authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders for tens of thousands of people in the scenic area in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, including some residents of Chico, population 93,000, near Paradise.
