Liverpool's boss was happy with the way his team played after a gruelling run of games which saw them play PSG, Chelsea twice, Napoli and Man City in the space of just over two weeks.

As well as the spot-kick City were awarded, for a foul on Leroy Sane by Virgil van Dijk, the visitors had other strong penalty appeals turned down but Guardiola did not complain.

Of players who have taken at least 10 Premier League penalties, only Juan Pablo Angel (five of 10) has a lower success rate than Mahrez (seven of 12).

With Sergio Aguero substituted, Mahrez took over spot-kick duties and while Gabriel Jesus was eager to take the penalty, the Algerian was adamant.

As for what it means for the standings, there is now a three-way tie for first with teams having records of 6-2-0.

What concerns me more about Spurs is still the strength of their squad and whether it is deep enough compared to the likes of City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Guardiola deployed the pace and height of John Stones and Aymeric Laporte at centre-back: last season, the less mobile and imposing Nicolas Otamendi played in both away games and was swamped by Liverpool's front three. "Maybe we didn't help him like a team and help him to score more goals".

"But for us it's another important point, especially going into the global break with a long break until the next game".

Los Angeles Dodgers Defeat Colorado Rockies to Win 2018 Division Title
Walker Buehler was set to start for the Dodgers (91-71) as the defending NL champions try for a sixth straight West title. The Dodgers will be looking to complete the three-game series sweep after winning the first two games of this series.

"Today they've done particularly well [against Southampton] but in a game you'd think they would do well".

It has become something of an insult in the modern game to accuse a team of "parking the bus" when they emerge with their goal unbreached and intact.

As well as the penalty, Mahrez had the two best opportunities, dragging one effort just wide of the far post and then drawing a smart save from Alisson at his near post. We want to create but when you make a mistake - if it is an open game at Anfield, you don't even have one per cent of a chance.

"It was seven massive games and I'm really happy with what the boys made out of it, now we have to hope they come back [from the upcoming worldwide break] healthy and then we go to Huddersfield". "It was really intense and both showed respect for the other team", he said. That was really important to see it agains, to adjust a few things. I thought how we defended was brilliant.

He does believe Liverpool will be one of them, though. We controlled much better than in the past, and with the second balls, on which they are masters.

"You can not ignore City in the preparation for a City game", Klopp said.

"They struggled to get a foothold in the first half. We had our chance".
