Tropical Storm Kirk, Hurricane Rosa Are Strengthening: NHC

The National Hurricane Center upgraded Kirk's chances this morning as the cluster of thunderstorms moves quickly west at about 25 miles per hour.

Tropical Storm Kirk grew a little stronger by 11am on Wednesday with sustained winds of 50 miles per hour.

"Tropical-storm-force winds are expected to stay south of the territory".

Unlike other countries such as Barbados, St Lucia, and St Vincent & the Grenadines, no tropical storm Warnings or Watches has been issued for the BVI.

Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy share lead in Philadelphia
Woods, who was this week named as a wildcard pick for the Ryder Cup, said: "I hit it just as well and putt it just as well". The 29-year-old recovered with a birdie on the last to ensure a share of the opening-round spoils with Woods.

On the forecast track, the center of Kirk will move across the Lesser Antilles within the tropical storm warning area Thursday or Thursday evening. A pocket of little to no shear will help Kirk gain strength as it moves to the west, but it's going to have a hard time overcoming the strong winds now settled over the Caribbean. Rapid weakening is expected on Friday after Kirk moves over the eastern Caribbean Sea.

A Tropical Storm Watch is issued when Tropical Storm conditions, including winds of 39-73 mph, pose a POSSIBLE threat to a specified coastal area within 48 hours. The minimum pressure is 1,002 mb.

"This disturbance is likely to redevelop into a tropical cyclone during the next day or two before it moves into an area of highly unfavourable upper-level winds as it approaches the Caribbean Sea", NHC said.

The storm will continue moving westward towards the Windward Islands, forecasters said. It has a 90 percent chance of development in the next five days. "We are still in the peak of the 2018 hurricane season, Virgin Islanders must continue to remain vigilant and prepared". These rains may produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides on the islands.
