Shooting breaks out at California's Del Mar race track

Authorities said a man fired his gun near the race track and a deputy returned fire.

The man who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital, but his condition is unknown, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Video provided by Fox San Diego showed deputies struggling with a man in a white shirt on the ground.

The Sheriff's Homicide Detail will give another media briefing when more information is available.

Seconds after the horses in Del Mar's 10th and final race crossed the finish line, gunshots were fired outside the track's fountain admission gate, according to numerous reports. Passing concert-goers can be heard shouting expletives after the shooting.

The announcer who is calling the race is heard saying, "There's gunfire at the track!".

Thousands pay their respects to US Sen. John McCain
John McCain will lie in state, guarded by DPS troopers atop the Arizona state seal, for 24 hours. August 29th would have been McCain's 82nd birthday, according to ABC 7 News .

Police cordon off the area at Del Mar Racetrack where shots were fired ahead of an Ice Cube concert.

The concert was scheduled for the Del Mar Racetrack at the fairgrounds about 21 miles north of downtown San Diego.

"We take consolation in the fact that no patrons, officers or security personnel were injured in the incident", the statement said.

Ambulances and helicopters were also seen shortly after the shooting.

About 7:30 p.m. Pacific time, the operators of the racetrack tweeted that "the situation has been contained", and the concert would be "moving forward as planned". "We will continue to fully cooperate with the Sherriff's Department in their investigation and will refer all questions concerning the incident to them", the statement continued.
