Serena Williams: I'm no spring chicken, but I have a bright future

Serena Williams: I'm no spring chicken, but I have a bright future

But Osaka didn't crack a smile.

Naomi Osaka has made history by becoming the first Japanese woman in the Open era to reach a Grand Slam singles final. "This is just the beginning and I'm really excited about that".

"Every day I step out on this court I am so grateful that I have an opportunity to play this sport". Here's all you need to know about her, including her impressive run so far at the 2018 US Open.

She plays a semifinal against No 19 seed Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia, who is appearing in the last four of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. "At the same time I feel like even though I should enjoy this moment, I should still think of it as another match". But Osaka struggled from there.

But she was back on terms after a break for 2-2, giving herself a chance with a stinging passing shot and getting the break when Sevastova's attempt at a drop shot from deep in the court failed to make it over the net. She was handed early exits at the Citi Open, the Rogers Cup and Cincinnati.

Playing under Japan's flag, Osaka trains under the helm of her coach Sascha Bajin who is incidentally Williams' former hitting partner.

Safe to say, those losses feel like a lifetime ago.

Adding consistency to her well-established power game, she has looked the part of a young Serena in dropping just a single set on her way to her first Grand Slam final. The bright lights of Ashe didn't seem to faze her against Madison Keys, and she'll need to approach Saturday like it's any other match. However, I'd suggest that the vast majority of US Open bettors had a similar point of view - let's not forget Williams drifted considerably post-draw in the outright market. I'm only a few months in and really looking forward to the rest of the year and next year. It will be a really good match.

She's not alone in her complimentary words.

Britain's Whitbread to sell Costa Coffee to Coke for $5.1 bln
In more recent years , it the company has been focused on building Costa into a multi-channel, worldwide coffee brand . Whitbread acquired Costa in 1995 for £19 million from founders Sergio and Bruno Costa when it had only 39 shops.

Williams never expressed any doubt that she would return to the game following the birth of her daughter Olympia last September, but that seemed an awfully long way away when she developed life-threatening complications. If not the present.

I've been watching Serena Williams and Venus Williams play the game of tennis since their 1st Grand Slam. "She was trying to deal with that". Her bare-bones technique - just toss the ball and hit it - is also what makes it so hard to read.

She was born in Japan, but moved to NY at the age of 3 and is now based in Florida.

Indeed, she gets Williams, who has lost only one set in the entire tournament (H/T to Kaia Kanepi).

Serena Williams was a bit shaky at the start of her U.S. Open semifinal.

"I don't dream to lose", she replied.

"The combination of her strength and childlike innocence is her charm", said the conservative-leaning Yomiuri, another major daily. It was the end of her 186-week reign at the top of the rankings.

"There's still much more that I plan on doing", declared Williams.

"You already know", she said with a smile. So you have your answer, I think.
