Seal slaps kayaker with octopus in gobsmacking video

While the reason for the altercation is unknown, we do know that seals in the area feed primarily on squid and other seafood - so maybe this particular seal was looking for some tucker.

"We were just sitting out in the middle of the ocean and then this huge male seal appeared with an octopus and he was thrashing him about for ages", Mulinder told the news channel.

The video clip shows the stunned kayaker roaring after being slapped hard across the face by a tentacle as the octopus slips back into the water, lodging itself under the kayak's hull.

"One seal swims right next to us, having an octopus in his mouth, pops right up to the surface next to us, then tries to chew up the leg but ended up slapping our face!"

Following the slap, the animals quickly disappeared into the water once again. He said the octopus clung to the end of his kayak after the fight and Mulinder only managed to release it with help from a fellow kayaker.

The Kavanaugh-Ford Hearing Will Be A Craven, Pointless Spectacle
She told The Washington Post that she was upset Trump won in 2016 because Kavanaugh could be a potential Supreme Court pick. Blasey Ford said the incident left her "drastically altered", but it was her "civic duty" to tell lawmakers what happened.

Mulinder posted the footage on Instagram, where it has since amassed thousands of views. "I'm not sure who got more of a surprise - the seal, the octopus or me".

"You might see a seal fighting on octopus from distance, but for it to come up to you and for that to happen, that's a once-in-a-life-time. Because that's what they do", he said, laughing.

The video caused a sensation on social media, with users comparing themselves to the hapless octopus, the seal or to Mulinder - or all three.

"Sometimes you're the seal".
