Twitch Announces the End to Ad-Free Viewing for Prime Members

Twitch Announces the End to Ad-Free Viewing for Prime Members

If you want some good news, Twitch announced today that starting August 28, Prime members will get a $10 Amazon credit when pre-ordering select games. This change will strengthen and expand that advertising opportunity for creators so they can get more support from their viewers for doing what they love.

Everything else available to Twitch Prime users will not go away, and that includes Free Games with Prime and free loot for games. For annual subscription holders, they'll continue to watch content ad-free until the next renewal date. Previously, Twitch Prime members were able to enjoy an ad-free experience on any device, watching any channel. (Twitch Prime comes free with Amazon prime subscriptions.) In most cases the difference will only be a couple of bucks, but as a matter of principle it's not a great look. Amazon's introduction of the Pre-order discounts in 2016 seemed to have been a direct response to Best Buy's move to slash GCU subscription costs by 70 percent in 2015. Depending on how many games that ends up being, this could severely cut the savings Prime members receive when buying new games. By paying $9 per month, Twitch members can add a "Turbo" membership to their profile, which disables ads across the entire site and adds a few other perks (cosmetic options while chatting in Twitch, larger video storage for video creators). But, more pertinent for a lot of people, this forces you to spend the full $60 and then use that other $10 somewhere on Amazon. Like Amazon's movie and TV streaming service and two-day shipping, the benefits of Twitch Prime are all wrapped up within the same $59 per year subscription.

The 33 deaths were reported from Ernakulam, Thrissur, Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts on Saturday. Thousands of homes have been destroyed and more than 10,000km of roads damaged across the state.

If that wasn't bad enough, all existing monthly subscribers will be rolled over to advertisement viewing on October 15, after which they will also have advertising included.

Thanks to every Twitch Prime member for supporting Twitch and your favorite streamers.
