Trump responds to Sessions: Go investigate Dems, critics

Trump intensified his criticism of the Justice Department in a Fox News interview broadcast on Thursday as the White House grappled to respond to the conviction of former Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign chairman, on multiple fraud counts and a plea deal struck by Michael Cohen, Trump's former personal lawyer, that implicated the president.

One day after telling Fox & Friends he only gave Jeff Sessions the job because he thought he was loyal (during the same interview, he questioned Sessions' manhood), Trump mocked Sessions' rare response.

The attorney general said he would not let the Justice Department be influenced by politics, after the president again criticized Sessions's recusal from the Russian meddling investigation.

In addition to weighing in on the Trump-Sessions spat, Collins talked to CBS 13 about her recent meeting with the president's controversial U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh - saying she "pressed him hard on the issue" of abortion rights - and her feelings about U.S. Sen.

The president started his morning with a post on the controversial Trump Tower meeting that many opponents cite as evidence of his campaign's collusion with Russian Federation.

"The President of the United States was and is entitled to a fully engaged attorney general".

That decision, and the ongoing progress of the inquiry under special counsel Robert Mueller, has provoked frequent outbursts from Mr Trump, both in person and on his Twitter feed. Page has resigned from the bureau.

On one of the worst days of his presidency, Donald Trump was chatting aboard Air Force One when the conversation took a detour into gallows humor. Trump and other Republicans have complained that the political opposition research used to support a wiretap application on a Trump associate was paid for by Democrats, something the inspector general is expected to look at.

In another tweet, Trump also pointed to the Justice Department's sentencing a former USA intelligence contractor to 63 months for leaking information about Russian meddling.

"Gee, this is "small potatoes" compared to what Hillary Clinton did!"

Prosecutors said 26-year-old Reality Winner was handed the longest sentence imposed for a federal crime involving leaks to the media.

Trump warned that should he be impeached the stock market would "crash" and "everybody would be very poor".

Trump asked Sessions for more transparency for law enforcement investigations leveled against his campaign.

"I feel there's a part of him that thinks I chose Donald Trump over him", Kellyanne told the Washington Post. "It's sort of an incredible thing", Trump said on Fox News, bemoaning Sessions' failure to investigate a myriad of perceived injustices against Trump and his campaign. But his tone in his statement on Thursday made clear he is exhausted of the president's attacks.

"But when everybody sees what's going on in the Justice Department - I always put "justice" now with quotes - it's a very, very sad day".

He added: "I demand the highest standards, and where they are not met, I take action".
