Transfer: Manchester United, Tottenham close to sealing deal on £60million defender

With the new Premier League season kicking off on Friday Manchester United are still unsure whether they'll have the services of Paul Pogba.

Barcelona centre back Yerry Mina might be the most realistic option right now for Manchester United as they look to improve their position of biggest weakness.

The Red Devils are thought to be in the market to sign a new centre-half in the summer transfer window to improve Jose Mourinho's team.

Marco Silva's side have been frustrated over the way they have been dealt with in the negotiating process, feeling that they were used and then discarded when United's interest emerged. As per The Sun, the £35m move did not materialise due to a disagreement regarding the agent's fees.

"Paul Pogba is obviously a great player, but we respect those who are at other clubs", Valverde said.

The CNN interview aired on Monday, after James opened his school for disadvantaged children in his hometown of Akron, Ohio . First, he insulted CNN's Don Lemon and then said that it's "not easy" to make James look smart.

He had been linked with a departure from the club prior to the World Cup, but his performances in Russian Federation have increased his options and seen a variety of sides linked with him.

This summer the club have also since signed Clement Lenglet from Sevilla, a move that would make first-team opportunities for Mina even more hard.

Alderweireld has refused to sign a new deal at Tottenham so the north Londoners are open to cashing-in before a release clause kicks-in next summer that would allow the defender to leave for just £25m.

Nevertheless, it seems Everton will capitalise on the opportunity to recruit Mina, with Sport claiming that the defender will put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Goodison Park.

Alderweireld, 29, has plied his professional trade in England since 2014 following a transfer from Atletico Madrid.
