The overall tablet market has been in decline but tablets catering to professionals and the enterprise has been increasing, Samsung officials told ZDNet.

The company made an operating profit of 14.87trn won ($13.3bn) on sales of 58.4trn won ($52.1bn) and revenue was down 4pc year on year.

As reported before, Samsung's chip business is the primary reason why the company was able to post an operating profit that is higher than Apple's.

Samsung predicted a sustained strength in the memory chip market and a rising demand for flexible OLED panels that would drive earnings higher in the second half.

"The year's second half is generally a peak season so smartphone and tablet demand is expected to go up", Samsung said.

Samsung isn't the only phone manufacturer that struggled in Q2, with Huawei Technologies also posting its slowest growth in H1 sales since 2013.

The research firm also noted that "barring any significant changes, maintaining its position in the premium space may prove challenging" for Samsung, even though it was one of few remaining companies to produce high-end Android tablets. As such, the company say it "will be offering the Note 9 at reasonable prices in order to maximize sales".

The Galaxy Note 8 was showcased on August 23 previous year and went on sale on September 21. The device will be available in Blue and Black color options and is sold through Flipkart and Samsung Online Shop starting August 6th.

Following major restructuring of its product line-up, Samsung led expansion of the premium TV market, gaining more than 50 percent market share in the ultra-large screen segment of 75 inches and above, the company said.

Samsung Electronics said it has allocated 8 trillion won in facilities investment for the second quarter. Revenue was also down 20 percent year on year to 24 trillion won.
