North Korea slams United States for lacking ‘basic decorum’ in nuke talks

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told North Korea's foreign minister that the United States can not be trusted, Tehran's state media said, as the United States seeks a deal to rein in the North's nuclear and missile programmes. Those followed contentious remarks last week by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho on the sidelines of a regional forum in Singapore.

The United States was "attempting to invent a pretext for increased sanctions against the DPRK".

North Korea's foreign ministry said on Thursday it had stopped testing missiles and conducting nuclear tests "followed by dismantling the nuclear test ground", and yet the United States still had insisted on "denuclearisation first".

USA officials have declined to comment on a report on the Vox news website Wednesday saying that North Korea had repeatedly rejected a US proposal for it to cut its nuclear arsenal by 60 to 70 percent within six to eight months.

North Korea has lashed out at the USA for continuing to push for sanctions enforcement. The United States cancelled a joint war exercise with South Korea that was due to take place this month while dismissing calls to ease sanctions until the North delivers on its commitments to fully denuclearize.

Three South Korean firms were caught importing coal and iron from the North previous year, Seoul said Friday (Aug 10), in an apparent violation of United Nations sanctions imposed in August 2017 on the nuclear-armed state.

Trump "needs to put a pin in that", says panelist
The president has said many times he would be willing to speak with Mueller, but plans to await his legal team's guidance. Thus, the purported disconnect between President Trump's tweets and statements by others on his team does not exist.

North Korea's nuclear weapons program has caused global tension for decades and the rhetoric and threats from Kim and Trump had been especially hostile before their June meeting.

Haley said Pompeo had delivered "solid" US demands to North Korea and that Washington would not weaken those or ease sanctions on Pyongyang. South Korea's unification minister will lead the delegation from Seoul but North Korea, which proposed the Monday meeting first, did not confirm the makeup of its delegation. It also wasn't clear when another leaders' summit might happen.

"In the current situation, friendly countries should develop their relations and cooperation in (the) worldwide community", he said, adding Iran and North Korea have "always had close views" on many issues.

All civilian communication between the two countries, which remain technically at war after the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice instead of a peace treaty, is banned unless approved by the governments.

South Korea's unification ministry did not elaborate on the location of the summit, although Mr Moon had previously agreed to visit Kim in Pyongyang during the autumn.

Kim and Moon met in April, at a highly publicized summit that saw the leaders hold hands and walk together across the border, and then again in a more informal summit in May.
