Manchester United troubles intensify as Spurs win 3-0 at Old Trafford

A furious Jose Mourinho pointed out he has won more Premier League title than the rest of his rivals put together before walking out of a press conference demanding respect in the aftermath of Manchester United's defeat to Tottenham.

Mourinho's side was shut out, 3-0, by Spurs, handing Man United its second straight loss three games into the campaign.

Despite a much improved Manchester United performance, defensive mistakes plagued the team for the second successive match.

Martial was fined by Mourinho for not returning to the club's pre-season tour of the United States after the birth of his second child and didn't even make the bench for Monday's defeat.

Kane climbed above Jones from a 52nd-minute corner to expertly direct a header over David de Gea and underneath the crossbar - his first goal on five trips to Old Trafford. After beating Leicester in its opener, United lost to Brighton 3-2 and now has three points after three rounds. Mourinho's audience was only thinking of the here and now, but the United manager was harking back to the past. "Today the players left the pitch after losing at home and they were applauded because they deserved it, so we keep trying, trying, trying", Mourinho said. Spurs hadn't scored a goal at Old Trafford in their previous 433 minutes of play.

Hugo Lloris kept his place in the Spurs goal and retained the captain's armband despite being arrested for drink driving in the early hours of Friday.

But when he has a team like Napoli that was doing well, he was playing well and he was close, he was close. Benitez said: "Everybody knows that finishing 10th was a miracle because we did really well, that's it".

Minutes before kickoff Tottenham announced substitute Erik Lamela had been injured in the warmup and would be replaced by 21-year-old midfielder Luke Amos on the bench.

United were the better side in the first half but missed a glut of chance to take the lead before capitulating after the break.

"It is a massive victory for us and I am very proud of the performance", said Pochettino.

"We worked all week and from the tactical point of view we didn't lose, but we lost the game", said Mourinho who went on the attack against the media.

"I don't think it's normal to lose a game at home and the supporters to react the way they did".

"Our fans don't read papers".
