Leadership challenge: Scott Morrison is Australia’s new Prime Minister

Turnbull did not contest the ballot and has said he will quit politics.

Australia, we have a new Prime Minister.

Other favorites include Treasurer Scott Morrison and the only declared challenger Peter Dutton, a former Cabinet minister.

Treasurer Scott Morrison won an internal party vote over former Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton by a margin of 45-40, the BBC reported late Thursday.

Mr. Turnbull tweeted half an hour before the meeting was due to start on Friday that Dutton had been provided him with the 43 signatures. The trend is universally hated by Australians.

Mr. Turnbull would then become the fourth prime minister to be dumped by his or her own party before serving a full three-year term since the revolving door to the prime minister's office started in 2010.

Public anger became apparent overnight with windows broken at the Brisbane office of Dutton, Turnbull's main rival in his government.

Morata's fourth goal in 2018 was another positive for Chelsea , but Sarri believes there is more to come from the Spain global . Better teams than Arsenal will punish Chelsea for their defensive mistakes, though, as Sarri admitted after this game.

Turnbull's decision to leave parliament means the new government will face a by-election for his Sydney seat that could see it lose its one-seat majority. The ballot to choose a prime minister is secret, so lawmakers don't have to declare which candidate they voted for.

"The political turmoil of the past decade has come at the cost of our global competitiveness. the business community needs policy certainty to promote investment and improve business confidence." said Tony Johnson, chief executive officer of Ernest & Young.

It is unclear whether Mr Turnbull will retire from parliament immediately or stay on until the next general election. They included more than one Turnbull supporter who signed to break the impasse.

The spill vote was passed 45-40, suggesting there were a large number of Liberal MPs who wanted to stick with Mr Turnbull.

Turnbull had been staring down calls for his resignation as leadership speculation crippled his government.

"My course from here is to provide absolute loyalty to Scott Morrison", Dutton, who Turnbull accused of bullying and intimidation in the move to knife him, said in brief comments afterwards. The Liberal-National government has consistently trailed opposition Labor in opinion polls in recent months.

Turnbull must now pay a visit to the Governor-General to officially inform him of events and once there will recommend Morrison to form a new government.
