Giuliani: 'Truth is not truth'

Donald Trump's lawyer has claimed that "truth isn't truth", during an interview about when the United States president would speak with special counsel Robert Mueller's team investigating Russia's involvement in the 2016 election.

Trump Jr. forwarded the email chain to then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort and the elder Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Giuliani says it's "silly" to say Trump should testify "because he's going to tell the truth and he shouldn't worry" because "it's somebody's version of the truth".

"No, no, no ... don't do this to me", said Giuliani, putting his hand to his head. "To undermine democrats on the hill, the Mueller investigation, the undermining of the press is part of that ... so that when the special report comes out they can claim 'I know the truth none of these institutions do, '" Cook pointed out.

"But men are, you know, disposable".

Todd, visibly perplexed, interrupted: "Truth is truth". "Trump says I didn't tell them, and the other guy says that he did say it".

Trump is aggressive in his use of nondisclosure agreements, even in government
Before becoming president, Trump himself had a reputation for quietly recording conversations during his business dealings in NY . Kelly came on board he told me she was a loser & nothing but problems", Trump said in a tweet .

After the show, former FBI Director James Comey, whose name came up in the NBC interview, tweeted that "truth exists and truth matters". Comey says you did talk about it. Rob Goldstone, who arranged the meeting, emailed Don Jr beforehand to pitch him on it and explicitly said that the dirt on Clinton was "part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump".

Even though he is supposed to be giving legal advice, Giuliani has occasionally freelanced on White House matters - eventually forcing the State Department to declare the president's lawyer does not speak for the U.S. government.

Although Trump has insisted he would cooperate with Mueller and field questions from his team of investigators, the president's own legal counsel has reportedly been less keen on the idea.

In fact, in context, the most absurd position Rudy's taken lately isn't that "truth isn't truth" but that he and Trump are happy to chat with Mueller about collusion (just not obstruction of justice). You might even say something entirely truthful that ends up inadvertently incriminating you because it happens to support a suspicion the police have independently formed.

"Truth isn't truth?" Todd interjected.

"This is going to become a bad meme", Todd observed.
