Schaffer was with her younger sister, mother and stepfather when disaster struck.

Stephanie's sister, Brooke, suffered minor injuries, Brian said, while the girls' mother sustained some broken bones and "we believe some internal bleeding, as well", he added.

Multiple members of an American family were also on the boat, and one, a 22-year-old woman named Stefanie Schaffer, lost both legs and is still hospitalized with severe wounds.

A GoFundMe page set up to help cover medical and travel expenses for the Schaffer family has raised over $100,000 within one day.

The name of the woman who died has not been released.

The company that ran the trip, 4C's Adventures, declined to comment on the explosion to because they are under investigation.

One person was killed after a boat goes up in flames following an explosion in the Bahamas.

The incident occurred in island of Exuma around 9:00am this Saturday, June 30.

Ten Americans and two Bahamians were aboard the boat when it exploded, according to officials. People on a nearby boat watched in shock Saturday as flames and black smoke poured into the sky.

Exumas and Ragged Island MP Chester Cooper said in a statement: "This is a sad day for Exuma and a sad day for our American friends".

According to ABC affiliate WPLG in Miami, four of the people injured are being airlifted to Bayfront Health in Saint Petersburg.

Her brother George Schaffer posted on his Facebook page that surgeons amputated both Stefanie's legs below the knees. Another boat nearby was able to rescue numerous passengers. We are saddened and our hearts our hurting, but we will get through this together.
