New Macbook Pro getting major upgrades, Apple says

As mentioned in our previous report, the 13-inch MacBook Pro can now be obtained with up to quad-core 8th Gen Intel Core i7. The MacBook Pro 13 gets two extra cores with Intel's Kaby Lake-R generation, so the i5 and i7 CPU's now have four cores instead of two while still supporting Hyper-Threading.

The eGPU is a freestanding extruded aluminum enclosure for an included Radeon Pro 580 GPU - the same GPU included in Apple's high-end 27-inch iMac previous year - with Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.1 connectivity. They are a lot faster with 8th-generation Core processors, and the 15-inch model supports up to 32GB of RAM and up to a 4TB SSD.

The new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pros are available for purchase today.

Alongside the new notebooks, Apple launched something interesting as well. Non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro models remain unrefreshed. Most notably, Apple has not fully changed the design of the laptops' keyboards, which have drawn serious complaints from consumers who find them unreliable.

In what is likely one of the most exciting rumors, Kuo said Apple could release new iPad Pro models that feature an edge-to-edge screen and Apple's facial recognition technology, FaceID. Going by the boost speeds the company cites for its CPU choices, Apple will offer the Core i9-8950HK as a top-end option for demanding pros in this notebook. True Tone is a nice feature that matches the color temperature of your display to the color temperature of your surroundings, thanks to an embedded light sensor. The 12-inch, 13-inch, and 15-inch sleeves sell for $149, $179, and $199, respectively. Apple is also including a T2 chip on the device that's capable of enabling the "Hey Siri" command for the first time ever on a Mac, so you no longer have to use the keyboard to access the personal assistant on your Mac. It also works as a docking hub for keyboards, mice, HDMI-connected displays or storage. The more interesting accessory, if you can call it that way, is the eGPU (external GPU) for the MacBook Pros. Apple insists that the keyboard reliability issues only affect a tiny fraction of MacBook Pro users. The maximum amount of RAM available in the larger laptop has also been doubled to 32GB.

Technically, Apple has admitted only that "a small percentage of the keyboards in certain MacBook and MacBook Pro models" have demonstrated the sticky key issue.
