LeBron James bound for Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James bound for Los Angeles Lakers

But there are at least three other teams - and maybe an outsider or two - with legitimate shots at landing the three-time MVP, who made it clear following this year's NBA Finals that he's still driven to win championships.

"Welcome to the family @KingJames", Bryant said on Twitter.

In Los Angeles, James will not only be in better position to pursue his business interests and send his son to a basketball powerhouse high school, he will be able to play a role in creating a powerhouse of his own over the next few years.

This is the third time in eight years James has changed teams.

The 33-year-old had previously said he wanted to finish his career in OH, and although he's leaving home again, Cleveland fans are more forgiving after he ended the city's 52-year sports championship drought in 2016. James also thanked Northeast Ohio on Instagram.

But there will always be a portion of Cleveland fans disappointed that James left again and that he wouldn't give the Cavs a longer commitment. Smith reported the Lakers can have as much as $68 million if they can work something out with Luol Deng, and by withdrawing a qualifying offer to Julius Randle, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Belgium's Romelu Lukaku did something no player has done since Diego Maradona
Roberto Martínez said Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens were also hurt, picking up calf and ankle injuries respectively. The scoreline reads 2-1 in favour of Belgium , and the game is turning out to be a goal fest already.

While there was a feverish flurry of activity involving big-named players in the opening hour of what has been billed as the Summer of LeBron, James did not announce where he'll play next season and it's not known if other moves, such as Paul George staying in Oklahoma City and Chris Paul staying in Houston, have affected his thinking.

Maybe Leonard will be a Laker before long. Philadelphia would instantly vault from conference contender to favourite with James, who could make a strong run at his ninth straight Finals in Year One.

The decision to join the Lakers was not a surprise to his innermost circle, with one person telling AP that it had been presumed for some time that he was headed to Los Angeles next season.

In the end, James believed it was the right situation for him. Throw in the chance to stay in the familiar Eastern Conference and play for a storied franchise (James has frequently counted Julius Erving and Allen Iverson among his favorite all-time players), and the Sixers would have appeared to be near the top of the list. With his destination unclear, the Lakers would likely gravitate toward a more aggressive move to assemble a team that can take on the Golden State Warriors.

He is, however, a talisman for winning, both in Miami and with the Cavaliers, and his presence alone as the most singularly dominant player in the game turns the Lakers into a factor. He's the next superstar to follow in the legacy that Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson built for the Lakers.
