A truce between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist group that controls the Gaza Strip, largely held on Saturday a day after one of the most fierce flare-ups along the volatile border in years.

"With Egyptian and United Nations efforts it has been agreed to return to the era of calm between [Israel] and Palestinian factions", Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said.

The unnamed official claimed "Hamas suffered a serious blow yesterday, and requested a ceasefire via Egypt, while promising to stop the arson terror and terror at the border fence". Spokesperson of the Israeli army said Israeli forces continue working against a "group of targets" in the Gaza Strip; he held the Hamas movement entirely responsible for the consequences of its actions. There were no other reports of unrest by Saturday morning.

A fourth Palestinian was shot dead during protests along the frontier with Israel, Gaza's health ministry said. "If Hamas breaks [the truce] it will pay an even greater price".

Protesters gather while burning tires near the fence along the Gaza Strip's border with Israel east of Khan Younis on Friday. "The IDF expresses its heartfelt condolences, and will continue to support the family", the military said in a statement.

TRT World spoke to journalist Mohammad Mansour who brings the latest from Malaka, eastern Gaza.

Ashraf al Qidra, a spokesman of the ministry, confirmed the deaths but he did not provide the names or ages of the slain Palestinians. "When a Palestinian sniper fires at one Israeli soldier, Israel bombs Gaza with F-16s and preps for all out war". Israel also sealed off the Zikim beach near the Gaza Strip and ordered Israelis in the area to remain close to shelters.

Earlier this year in the Australian Open , Kerber ran into the traps of crafty Su-Wei Hsieh in the fourth round. Next was a first-round loss at Miami. "I also needed to find the motivation after 2016, which was incredible ".

The recent outburst of violence comes after months of near-weekly border protests organised by Hamas aimed in part at protesting against the Israeli-Egyptian blockade of Gaza.

Explosion is seen following an Israeli air strike in the southern Gaza Strip.

In response to Israel's "massive" wave of airstrikes, activists began circulating the #StoptheWar hashtag in an effort to pressure the global community to step in and stop Israel's efforts to launch yet another catastrophic assault on the "occupied, blockaded, unlivable, and exhausted Gaza Strip".

Israeli war jets are hovering over Gaza, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, but did not give any end date for the offensive.

"Hamas is forcing us into a situation where we will have no choice but to embark on a large and painful military operation", Lieberman was quoted as saying by Israeli Hebrew-language daily Yedioth Ahronoth.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen Gadi Eizenkot and Mr. Lieberman at the military's headquarters in Tel Aviv to discuss the escalating tensions in Gaza. No statements have been issued by Netanyahu or the army.
